There are two certified NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Courses from which students may choose.
- A blended course where the student convers the classroom portion in an on-line environment so they may proceed at their own pace. For people wishing to take the course but not having enough time to devote up to 8 hours in a single day, the blended course is suggested.
- An instructor led course where there is a classroom environment and a live instructor takes the student through the rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. For people who have the time or learn better with a live instructor, the instructor led course is recommended.
